My first BattleFrog. I will admit to going into this 5 mile race with a touch of ego. My last two weekends racing turned out fantastic and I barely prepped myself mentally or nutritionally for this 5 mile race that wasn’t on a ski mountain. Turns out my ego was humbled and boosted during the same race.

My OCR sister and I drove 2 hours to Jersey for an 8:30am start. I absolutely loved the prep talk by Coach Pain; "Be a Champion when you wake up and be a Champion until you go to bed. And if God grants you another day of life, be a Champion again".

#WHYIRACE - My Story

3 years ago I had just graduated college, spent a week in Las Vegas, and was beginning my career with a full time job. From the outside things looked great, but on the inside things were very wrong. I felt like I was drowning on dry land, I was depressed and hated everything about my life. I didn’t feel good enough; my accomplishments felt hollow and anti-climactic. Deep down I regretted many things I was doing, and the opinions I valued most were by people who didn’t care about me at all. When I looked in the mirror I absolutely hated everything I saw.

To be honest, I really don’t know what my tipping point was. I think it was just an accumulation of things and somehow realizing I was at rock bottom.

Oh Tuxedo. I am still smiling from ear to ear. This was my first time ever racing back-to-back weekends, and I decided to race back-to-back days as well. A 4.8 mile course of technical trails, short steep climbs, and many obstacles greeted me. I drove 3hrs North on Saturday morning and jumped into the 1pm starting corral. The course starts up hill and the wraps right back down. As I’m getting in the zone I hear someone call my name, look over and see my friend from the gym standing there. He was supposed to be running at 8am, but apparently had so much fun he had just started his third lap! He opted to wait for me to catch up. I was very grateful because we kept each other pushing throughout the race.
