I count calories. I use My Fitness Pal (MFP). And I could ramble on and on and on about calorie deficits, macros, and things like TDEE and BMR. This is knowledge I've gained through working with dietians, MFP, and Google. I am certainly not oblivious to the fact that I could stand to lose quite a few more pounds. I know it will make me healthier and a stronger athlete.
I'm not going to lie, there are times I break down and curse calorie counting. It gets old, it gets tedious....but it gets results. After 2.5 years on my weight loss journey with various stages of seriousness in calorie counting, I can tell you that the times I've dropped solid weight, was when I was being particular about calorie counting. It works. But it isn't necessarily easy. I mean sure, in theory it is. I can have OCD tendencies and it makes it easy to freak out over not being able to calculate the exact calories in some things. I have noticed the more I do it the easier it is to keep doing it. Measuring out foods becomes second nature and you learn shortcuts like saving meals in MFP to make entries faster.
